RODNUK Editorial Policy

1. Who we are

RODNUK (rodnuk.com) is an independent media platform dedicated to the Romanian community in the United Kingdom. We cover:

• News relevant to Romanians in the UK — economy, politics, education, healthcare, sport, culture
• Verified job listings in the UK
• Community events — concerts, conferences, festivals, churches, associations
• Integration resources — tax, legal, social
• Community voices — life stories, interviews, opinion pieces

We are operated by Dig Wild Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We are not politically affiliated and do not receive funding from political parties or governments.

2. Editorial independence

Editorial content is independent from the platform's commercial activities (job board, advertising, recruiter subscriptions). Journalistic articles are not influenced by:

• Commercial clients (paid recruiters)
• Sponsors or partners
• Political or religious considerations

Sponsored content (advertorial), when present, is clearly labelled with "PROMOTED" or "SPONSORED" tags and visually separated from editorial content.

3. Verification standards

For any factual claim, RODNUK editors apply the following minimum standards:

• Two independent sources — minimum two separate sources for new factual claims
• Named sources preferred — anonymous sources accepted only with explicit editor approval and identity verification
• Documentation — each article with verifiable claims retains screenshots, links, or recordings of sources in archive
• Accurate quotation — statements are reported faithfully; context is not distorted
• Right to reply — any person or organisation criticised in an article is contacted at least 48 hours before publication with a summary of claims and opportunity to comment

4. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

RODNUK uses AI tools (large language models) to assist in drafting certain articles, particularly for summarising international news in Romanian.

Our AI transparency policy:

• All AI-assisted or AI-generated articles are visibly marked with the label "AI-assisted · editorially reviewed" at the end of the article
• No AI article is published without human editorial review
• AI is used for assistance (translation, summarisation, structuring), not for fabricating facts or quotes
• Original sources are always cited regardless of the drafting tool
• Human editors remain ultimately responsible for the accuracy of published content

5. Copyright and images

We use only properly licensed images: original photography, Creative Commons-licensed images (with attribution), or royalty-free libraries (Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay, Wikimedia Commons). Images used under fair dealing for news reporting are limited to illustrative purposes, with appropriate attribution.

Quotations from other publications are limited (under 10% of the original text) and marked with a link to the original source, pursuant to fair dealing as provided by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

6. User-generated content (UGC) and contributors

We accept contributions from volunteers and external collaborators (Romanian citizens in the UK, journalism students, professionals from various fields). Contributors:

• Sign a Contributor Agreement that includes copyright assignment and originality warranties
• Are responsible for the accuracy of information in submitted materials
• Their content goes through the same editorial review as any article
• Receive public attribution (byline + bio + link)

7. Sensitive topics

For topics requiring particular care, we apply stricter standards:

• Active court proceedings — we do not comment on verdicts or evidence in ongoing trials (Contempt of Court Act 1981)
• Minors — we do not publish names, photographs, or details that allow identification of minors without parental consent
• Victims of crime — we protect the identity of victims of sexual offences and domestic violence pursuant to the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992
• Suicide and mental health — we follow Samaritans Media Guidelines for responsible reporting
• Sensitive personal data — we process special category data (health, ethnicity, political opinions) only under the journalism public-interest exemption (DPA 2018 Schedule 2 Part 5)

8. How we handle errors

If we publish a factual error:

1. We correct it promptly (within 48h of confirmation)
2. The article displays a visible correction note with the date and what was corrected
3. For significant errors, we publish a separate editorial note on the Corrections page
4. We respond directly to the person who flagged the error

9. Complaints

If you consider a RODNUK article to be inaccurate, prejudicial, or in breach of professional standards, you may submit a formal complaint. We respond within 7 working days. Full procedure: Complaints Procedure.

10. Regulation

RODNUK operates in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, including:

• Defamation Act 2013
• Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988
• UK Data Protection Act 2018 / UK GDPR (including journalism exemption — Schedule 2 Part 5)
• Contempt of Court Act 1981
• Equality Act 2010
• Online Safety Act 2023

We hold an official registration with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) as a data controller (ref. ZC150659) and have notified the ICO of processing for journalistic purposes ("special purposes").

11. Diversity and inclusion

We commit to reflecting the diversity of the Romanian community in the UK — geographically (London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Belfast, etc.), generationally, professionally, religiously, and socially. We refuse content that discriminates based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or ethnic origin (pursuant to the Equality Act 2010).
